Nov 2009 STORM REACH FINALS AT 11TH ANNUAL HALLOWEEN KICK OR TREAT CLASSIC
The West Contra Costa County Youth Soccer League's FCA Storm reached the finals of the 11th Annual Halloween Kick or Treat Classic, but came up short 3-1 to the Livermore Elite Rampage last month in Concord, California.

The Storm, who finished undefeated in the Norcal Premier U-9 Girls Silver division, came into the tournament giving up only one goal this season in league games.   However, many Storm players began the tournament recovering from the flu, with some players not having played or practiced for several weeks.  (The Storm canceled their game against the San Ramon Adrenaline just a week earlier as they did not have enough healthy players to field a team).

The Storm led off the tournament against the Livermore Elite Lightning 00.   Both teams were scoreless through the first half, but the Storm re-grouped, coming up with a pair of goals to defeat the Lightning 2-0.   The Storm's second round game came against Central Marin Magic who played the Storm tough, but could not overcome the Storm's stifling defense.  The Storm again came up with a 2-0 victory and advanced to the Semi-Finals against the host team and league rival, Diablo FC 00,

Diablo FC played an inspired game and had the backing of a raucous home crowd.  The Storm scored quickly in the first half, but Diablo FC roared back with a goal of their own.   Both teams played lock down defense for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 1-1 tie.  The game was ultimately decided on penalty kicks, with the Storm coming away with a 4-3 victory.

The Storm faced the Livermore Elite Rampage in the most anticipated game of the tournament, which featured one of the top gold rated U-9 girls teams in the Norcal Premier League.  The Rampage lived up to their name and played their own suffocating brand of defense which yielded only 2 goals all season.   The Rampage struck first with a penalty shot inside the 18 yard line and then scored late in the first half after their striker followed up on a shot that had been blocked by the Storm's goalie.

The Storm came roaring back in the second half, controlling the ball for much of the period.  The Storm eventually scored on a free kick midway through the second half.  With only two minutes remaining, all of the Storm players converged on the Rampage goal in a frenzied attempt to tie the game, but the Rampage were able to steal the ball and score a goal at the end of the game, making the final score 3-1.

The Storm's coaches and families were extremely proud of their play and believe the Kick or Treat Classic was an excellent warm up to the Norcal Premier State Cup Tournament in Sacramento.   The Storm is currently seeded atop their qualifying Table and is scheduled to play top teams from the Livermore Elite, Danville Mustang and Sacramento United programs in the first round.

We wish the FCA Storm the best of luck at the upcoming Norcal Premier State Cup Tournament in November.

Aug 2009 Storm took the Championship in Novato
Storm a new U9 girl’s team coached by Dave Silva, Erick Dimalanta and trainer Mike Alzagha, took the Championship in their age group at the 23rd Annual Novato Classic Tournament the weekend of Aug 8-9, 2009.  After being up at half time 2-1, the tournament began with a tough loss to the home team Novato United of 4-2.  However, Storm came back to shut out their next opponent 10-0.  The 3rd game was also a shut out of 7-0 to a Mustang team.   This put Storm in first place going into the championship game.  Storm beat their opponent in a hard fought game with the home team Novato United.  Their victory was a nail biter which came in overtime, with a final goal minutes before the final whistle blew!!!  The final score was 2-1.  This is an excellent result for Storm’s  first sanctioned tournament.

U15 Boys Barcelona are the 2009 Diablo FC Summer Classic Champions!
Our U15 boys Barcelona coached by Cristiano Cassilhas won the DFC Summer Classic Champions. Their first game was against Davis Legacy Vipers. At half time Barcelona was up 1-0, controlling most of the game. During the second half Vipers came back and scored three goals. The final result was 3-1 giving us a loss. You'd think this would have a negative impact on the boys. Not so, they brushed that off and were ready for the second match of the day against Heritage Manchester. Our boys played a beautiful game! They fought with a lot of heart and it payed off. They won 1-0. The third game was against Mustang. Our boys were still focused and it definitely showed on the field. The 5-0 score said it all. This qualified them to move on to the championship. The championship game was played against the Vallejo Panteras. It was all that you can expect from a championship game. Our boys did not back down for one minute, they left their heart and soul on the field. We are all so proud on how focused and committed they were when that whistle blew to commence the match. It was a long fought battle but our boys never stopped fighting. The boys fought with hearts of champions. The final result was 1-0, making Barcelona the 2009 Diablo FC Summer Classic Champions! We are all so proud of how our young men represented themselves and WCCYSL.
